Mudita is a word from Sanskrit and Pali with no true counterpart in English. It expresses the idea of sympathetic joy: taking genuine happiness in the wellbeing and good fortune of others. Where jealousy or schadenfreude (pleasure in another’s misfortune) are rooted in selfishness, mudita is their antidote. It is an inner wellspring of joy that flows freely and can be extended to all beings.
We chose the name Mudita deliberately. For us, it represents the deeper purpose of impact investing: to create measurable improvements in the lives of people and communities. That is why we have built criteria and monitoring tools into our investment fund. These measures allow us to track not only financial returns, but also the social outcomes that matter most — dignity, opportunity, and wellbeing.
In this way, mudita is not just our inspiration; it is translated into the systems we use to ensure that our investments genuinely contribute to the happiness and wellbeing of others.
